Rachel Calabrese is a dancer and choreographer from New York City. She attended Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University where she graduated in May 2020 with a BFA in Dance. While at Mason Gross, Rachel had the opportunity to train with and perform works by choreographers: Shannon Gillen, Alexandra Beller, Christian Von Howard, and Kimberly Bartosik. She has trained with Shannon Gillen at VimVigor dance companies 2020 and 2021 summer intensives, with NW Dance Project in their Advanced Platform summer intensive, and at LINK Dance Festival. She was a company member with Wasatch Contemporary Dance Company in Provo, Utah for their 2020-2021 season and with Sonia Plumb Dance Company for their Summer and Fall 2021 projects throughout Hartford, Connecticut. She was adjudicated as an emerging choreographer alongside her choreographic partner, Sawyer Newsome, under their choreographic platform ‘NewBrese Dance Project’ for Wasatch Contemporary Dance companies spring season in 2021. Their work received the Extraordinary Artist award for exceptional choreography and creativity. They were again adjudicated as emerging choreographers in 2021 for Eisenhower Dance Detroit’s NewDANCEfest festival and in 2022 for Water Street Dance Festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

 

Currently, Rachel is a company member with Kizuna Dance, Finleigh Zach Dance Company, KTCO Dance Company, and Yaroque Dance Company. She is Co-director of NewBrese Dance Project which ongoingly performs works throughout the New York and New Jersey area, occasionally traveling to different states. Through NewBrese Dance Project she has taught floorwork and partnering classes in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Water Street Dance Festival and Metuchen, New Jersey.

Rachel recently had the opportunity to travel to Japan in August 2024 with Kizuna Dance Company to perform as part of the U.S-Japan Friendship Commission granted to Cameron Mckinney X Toru Shimazaki.

Rachel has a love for floorwork, partnering and physical dance theatre. She loves researching momentum based movement, seeing how it can lead her in her movement practice.
